予防医学の歴史４（近世）

「産業医学の父」と称されたBernardino Ramazziniの
記した「働く人々の病気」は、鉱山労働者を初めとして、

従前から蓄積されてきた研究成果を集大成し、以後の研究に
おける基礎ともなるものである。

１６、１７世紀にはペスト、梅毒、痘瘡（天然痘）、マラリア、
ジフテリアなどの伝染病が重要視されていた。

その中で、Edward Jennerは、牛痘による天然痘予防法（種痘）
を見出し、天然痘の予防に大きく貢献した。
